Culver-Stockton College Energy-efficient Grant will save the College $368,000 per Year

Beneath the pristine green lawn outside Prairie Village’s community center, 32 holes each plunge deeper than the length of a football field. Although not visible, they serve an essential function, creating a pathway for a new geothermal heating and cooling system for three Prairie Village government buildings.

After a month of competition, the three University of Kansas buildings competing in the Lights Out! energy-saving contest are making major reductions in their energy use. Bailey Hall, Green Hall and Summerfield Hall have combined to save 10% off their overall energy use, compared to last February.

Crews are drilling 400 feet down into the earth on Prairie Village city grounds, and it's all in an effort to save on heating and cooling costs. One hole is so big it would rival the length of Liberty Memorial if a person stacked two of them end to end.
