The Perry-Lecompton school district is making the most of a tough situation with school buildings being closed through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Significant renovations are underway to portions of the District’s heating, cooling and ventilation systems, as well as building controls. Over $700,000 in needed improvements are being made during this down time while students and teachers are not in the building. By getting these projects completed in the late Spring, the District will be in a much better position for reopening their newly improved buildings when the time is appropriate. One key improvement is the addition of plasma air filtration, which can help reduce particles in the air, control odors and sterilize mold and bacteria.
Contractors working onsite are following all safety precautions per CDC recommendations, and ESP, the District and all contractors follow a daily health and safety checklist before they can start work. The type of work being performed allows for proper social distancing, and the workers are certainly no strangers to using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) in the course of performing their job.
ESP had previously partnered with the District last Summer to install nearly $800,000 worth of energy-saving improvements, including new LED lighting throughout the District and the installation of modern variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heating and cooling systems at Perry and Lecompton Elementary schools that have improved classroom comfort. That work is helping the District save over $50,000 annually on energy and operational costs.
