Wabaunsee USD 329 is a Kansas unified school district located in Alma, KS. District facilities include Alma Elementary School, Maple Hill Elementary, Paxico Middle School, Wabaunsee Junior High, and Wabaunsee High School.

Wabaunsee consulted with multiple ESCO’s before ultimately selecting ESP as their partner. ESP’s team began by conducting a detailed analysis of the district’s needs and energy-saving opportunities. Complicating matters was the fact that the district was simultaneously looking to pass a bond issue. Working together, ESP and the district considered many possible combinations of projects that balanced the potential bond projects with energy-saving efforts.

The district ultimately selected a group of improvements that addressed their immediate needs. The project included indoor air quality (IAQ) improvements, new LED lighting, sealing air leaks around doors, recommissioning of some HVAC units to extend their life, roof-top unit replacements, and energy conservation training.

The upgrades greatly improved lighting, comfort and air quality in the classrooms. By implementing the energy-saving improvements, the district was able to cut utility bills by 20%.
