Hulbert Public Schools, located in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, is a school district in the heart of Green Country and between Tahlequah and Wagoner. The district operates three schools, Hulbert Elementary, Hulbert Middle and Hulbert Jr-Sr High School serving grades PK to 12.
Hulbert Public Schools needed to address their aging and outdated HVAC equipment. ESP’s team began by conducting a detailed analysis of the district’s needs and energy-saving opportunities. Utility analysis, site visits, and conversations with staff revealed that there were opportunities for substantially improving system efficiency and decreasing operating costs.
The district ultimately selected a group of improvements that addressed their immediate needs. The project included the installation of window film, building envelope improvements, air destratification in the gymnasium, HVAC replacements at the High School, building controls and smart thermostats District-wide.
The new systems are providing a much more comfortable learning environment for students, faculty and staff. Energy savings are exceeding expectations and helping pay for the project. The project will save the district over $35,000 annually on utility and operating costs. The district will also reduce its annual greenhouse gas impact by 136 metric tons of harmful emissions; the equivalent of 28.4 homes’ electricity for one year.
