Motors/Pumps/Drives

Constant volume systems operate at the level of their peak design, meaning they provide the same amount of air or fluid regardless of the heating or cooling load. Variable volume systems match the speed of the motors or pumps to the heating or cooling load, thereby saving energy. Variable speed drives on fans and pumps in combination with digital controls are the most common devices utilized when converting a system to variable volume.  The net result of the conversion is a significant reduction in fan/pump energy consumption as well as heating and cooling consumption.
